Sweet Spots, Juicy Buys

Travelin’ fools November 18, 2011

Hey, Pineapple fans! The Pineapple People have been swamped this week, traveling from one end of the country to the other. Jay and Barlow took a quick trip south to sunny Florida early this week to pay visits to David Scott Fine Jewelry and Gilland Chevrolet. They managed to cross two states off the list in 24 hours.

The meeting with Gilland was a productive one; we will be producing a new campaign for them soon. In addition, the Pineapples will also be launching their new website shortly and begin managing their social networking. Things are going well in Alabama!

It was great to see the gang from David Scott Fine Jewelry; they are a lot of fun! They were presented with their new commercials and they loved them. This campaign is going to be the talk of Panama City; I just know it! Just to give you a taste, see below to watch the spot that’s hitting the airwaves next week!

After a brief overnight stop back in Tulsa, the guys headed north to Wichita to visit Davis-Moore Nissan and present them with their next campaign idea. As always, the staff at Davis-Moore was a pleasure to deal with, and we look forward to working with them in the future. It’s definitely been a busy week for the boys!

As all of you know, the Pineapples are all big Oklahoma State fans, so I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the tragic event that affected the Cowboy Nation last night. One decade after 10 members of the OSU Cowboy basketball family were lost in a horrific Colorado plane crash, the Cowgirl basketball program says good-bye to head coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna. The coaches were killed in a plane crash yesterday afternoon in central Arkansas, along with the pilot and his wife. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones, as well as the entire OSU family.

From all of the Pineapple People, have a safe weekend. Hope all of your Thanksgiving preparations are going well; it’ll be here before you know it!

Happy Veterans Day! November 11, 2011

Happy Veterans Day, Pineapple fans! As a veteran of the Air National Guard, this is a day that’s always been special to me. Take the time to thank a veteran today for serving our great country; it’s not an easy job. And it’s certainly no picnic for those who do it full time!

My husband and I have a long-standing tradition of going to eat at Applebee’s on Veterans Day; it’s not my favorite restaurant, but they do a fantastic job of recognizing veterans with their Thank You Movement campaign. (And who doesn’t like free food?)

Several other restaurants have followed in Applebees’ footsteps and are now offering deals to veterans. With proof of service, active duty and veterans can eat free at Chili’s today between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Outback Steakhouse offers a free Bloomin’ Onion. And Arby’s will give a free roast beef sandwich (whoop-de-doo. Thanks a heap, Arby’s.).

It’s been another wild week at Pineapple HQ. We got our new surfboard in, complete with amazing graphics, courtesy of Jay.

And even though there were no surfboard-hanging kits available at Home Depot, the guys even managed to get it hung on the wall. Great job!

We have been busy laying in the final media plans for 2012 for all of our clients; it’s a big project, but we are pleased about getting everything done early to ensure the best possible rates for our clients. It’s definitely worth it!

We also have some productions in the works: new Car Country spots will be filmed this month, and we are also working on plans for Taste the World Photography’s next campaign, Rockstar Row.

Barlow and Jay are heading south to visit clients next week, so I’m a little bit jealous of that. They’ll just have to have fun without me, I guess! I’m also working on travel arrangements for NADA in fabulous Las Vegas in February. We are hoping for another successful convention so we can spread the word about how awesome Pineapple is.

From all of the Pineapples, have a wonderful weekend! And a HUGE thank you to all of our veterans out there!

Your commercials suck! November 4, 2011

Whew, it’s been a busy week at Pineapple HQ. I know I always say that, but this is no exaggeration. We have been laying out media plans for the duration of 2012, which means meeting with each station individually. We love doing this, because it gives us a chance to chat with our Account Executives (and sometimes their managers). Everyone we work with is truly a joy to do business with, so we really like getting to take time to visit and plan. We’re excited to get a jumpstart on 2012 so that it is a smooth and peaceful year, plus it’s allowing me to learn a lot about the media buying aspect of the business.

You all know that the Pineapple People are very honest with our opinions on commercials. You are all aware of our “Your Commercials Suck” campaign. Barlow is taking this to the next level; he’s on Twitter now! Follow Barlow @PickPineapple to get his 140-character opinion on commercials…he’ll tell you how it is. And if you know him, it’s pretty obvious that it will be entertaining!

We have spent this week wrapping up numerous projects; the new “Yes!” campaign for David Scott Fine Jewelry in Panama City is coming along nicely, and we should have final spots to show you soon! We have also been doing some final tweaks on the new spots for Nelson Mazda in Nashville, so that’s exciting, too.

Good news out of Charlotte: the Walla Walla Bing Bang campaign for Rogers Auto Group is a huge success! After just two weeks on the air, the dealership and it’s employees are being inundated with new business and compliments on the spots. Aimee’s got moves and she didn’t even know it! Great job!

Well, Pineapple fans, have a wonderful weekend! Be sure to cheer on our beloved OSU Cowboys tomorrow as they take on K-State, and watch for our “Come Alive” commercial to air during the game! And remember, if you haven’t picked the Pineapple…your commercials suck!
