Sweet Spots, Juicy Buys

Pay it forward November 30, 2010

Well, did everyone else have as difficult a time as I did getting out of bed this morning? There’s just something unpleasant about it when you can tell the temperature has dropped 50 degrees from the day before. It’s a brisk day out there, with a wind chill in the 20s (brrrr!) and a high of 44. Maybe I spoke too soon yesterday when I was raving about the warm weather. Sorry, y’all.

The Pineapples have a busy day ahead; the boys are leaving for Nashville in the morning, so there is always a lot to do in order to prepare for a trip, especially when production is involved. Not only do we have to get the crew situated, plus all of their equipment, we have to make sure that all of the actors and props are in place, and the scripts are perfect. Barlow has been pumping out some awesome creative lately, so these new spots are going to be great! And they will definitely put you into the spirit of Christmas.

We have a fun work activity this afternoon. Pineapple’s newest client, 3-D Abs, will be coming by to show us a demonstration of the product, so we can get ready to start production on the new infomercial. I have a feeling that we won’t be walking out of work this evening with brand-new six-pack abs, but I bet we will be sore tomorrow. Or at least, I will!

You all know that we have a very active Facebook page. Well, we feel like it’s time for another fan blitz! Yes, that’s right….the first person to get us 30 new fans will receive a $20 gift card to Dickinson Theatres. The easiest way to do this is to post the fan blitz in your status update. Simply tell 30 of your friends who don’t already “Like” Pineapple to go to our page, “Like” us, then post YOUR name on our wall, so we can keep track. First person to 30 wins! And who doesn’t want to take a night off from Christmas preparations to go to a movie? Especially if it’s free! And now it’s time to remind all of you that we are collecting donations for a local family for Christmas. We are accepting gift cards, food items, and clothing and toys for a six-year-old girl. She loves make-up, playing dress-up, coloring, arts & crafts and dolls. She wears size 6x/7 tops, size 7 slim pants and size 2 shoes. Please donate anything that you can to ensure that this deserving family has a wonderful holiday season. If you need more information, please contact us on our Facebook page, the Pineapple Hands Facebook page, or email Lori directly at lbarlow@pickthepineapple.com.

While we are on the subject of helping others, let me tell you about something else. All of the Pineapple People make it a point to do random acts of kindness on a regular basis. You never know how much one act can affect someone else. And it may seem trivial to you, but it can make all the difference. Tomorrow, December 1, is Pay It Forward Day. This is a great way to start realizing how you can make a change in someone’s life. So tomorrow, do something random and kind. Pay for the coffee for the person in line behind you. Help someone load their Christmas tree. Hold the door for more folks than you normally would. Anything and everything can make a difference. Oh, and the Salvation Army bell ringers are out and about at local stores, so please donate anything to them…whatever spare change you have is fine. I’ve volunteered as a bell ringer for the last several years, and I’m telling you, it’s a COLD job! Although I never got to wear one of those aprons….maybe that would’ve helped. All right, Pineapple fans, I’m going to stop begging you for things now. Have a terrific Tuesday, bundle up, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

The Monday After November 29, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — pickthepineapple @ 11:18 am

Good morning, Pineapple fans! It’s another beautiful day in Oklahoma, which I’m very happy about it. The longer winter waits to blast us full force, the better! Although I feel kind of odd listening to Christmas music when it’s warm out; the weather isn’t helping contribute to my holiday mood. (And yes, I have to listen to Christmas tunes in my car, since it’s been banned from Pineapple HQ. Maybe they will relent in a couple of days when it’s actually December.)

So it was a busy weekend for the Pineapples. The Pineapple Twins headed to Stillwater for the Bedlam game and had a great time, minus the whole “loss to the Sooners” thing. They had a fun Saturday of tailgating, hanging with friends, and cheering for the Cowboys. It was a nailbiter of a game, and I’m overjoyed that the Cowboys gave the Sooners a run for their money this year. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to go OR watch the game, but I’ve heard plenty about it. It’s always a bit of a letdown on the Monday after Bedlam, no matter who wins, because we look forward to it all year. Kind of like Christmas. We’ll get them next season! After a relaxing Thanksgiving and Bedlam weekend, the Pineapple Twins are kicking back into travel mode. The boys will head to Nashville on Wednesday to shoot a commercial for a dealer group up there. They also get to pay a visit to the Ledfords, so it will be a fun, although busy, trip for them. Lots of work to be done in the coming days!

And what will I be doing while they’re gone? Working hard to launch a new fan blitz on our Facebook page! We’ve come a long way since we first started our page last spring, but you know us; we are never satisfied with just letting things be. Our new goal is to get 2000 fans by the end of the year, and we know we can do it with your help. Stay tuned for more details!

And on a sad note (since it’s Monday, after all), today we say good-bye to Leslie Nielsen. He passed away yesterday after battling pneumonia. He was 84. I thought it was just a coincidence that “The Naked Gun” was on yesterday. Maybe it wasn’t. I’ve always been a Leslie Nielsen fan; I loved The Naked Gun series as a kid, and Airplane! is one of my all-time favorite movies. Hats off to you, Mr. Nielsen, and rest in peace.

Well, I’m off to jump into my crazy Monday; hope everyone has a wonderful day, and I’ll see you tomorrow! Also, don’t forget to think about what you would like to donate for our Pineapple Hands Christmas spirit project!

Black Friday and Bedlam November 26, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — pickthepineapple @ 11:24 am

Happy Black Friday, Pineapple fans! If you went shopping this morning, more power to you. I’m sure the lines were insanely long and it was freezing cold, but I’m sure you got some amazing deals. (I hope, for your sake!) You hear horror stories every year about folks being trampled by all of the shoppers, and I hope this year is safe for everyone. Did everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving? I know I did…I’m still full! Our meal was a complete success, and I have plenty of leftovers. Feel free to come by my house…I still have half of a pumpkin cheesecake left. My dog got plenty of turkey scraps, so she was a happy puppy!

Things are picking up here at Pineapple HQ. We’ve got new clients on board, and we feel confident that plenty more will be Picking the Pineapple in 2011. It’s going to be a very busy year for the Pineapple People, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! The Pineapple Twins are heading to Nashville next week to shoot a new commercial for a dealership up there, just in time for the holidays. We love new production; it’s always fun! And shooting on location is always a blast.

Tomorrow is a HUGE day for Oklahoma football, the culmination of the regular season, and the almighty Bedlam game between our beloved Oklahoma State Cowboys and the University of Oklahoma Sooners. This year is going to be a great game; both teams are solid, and OSU is doing especially well this year. It seems that everyone I know is heading to Stillwater for some tailgating and football fun. If you’re out and about, be sure to find the Pineapple People….just look for people wearing orange. (That’s a joke.) The game starts at 7 p.m. at Boone Pickens stadium. Get there early, sport your orange, and get ready to cheer on the Cowboys. Oh, and ESPN Gameday is going to be there, too. Not too shabby! Now that Thanksgiving is over and Christmas music is officially on the radio, it’s time to think about the next big holiday. And when we think about Christmas, it’s easy to be excited about gifts and cookies and trees and shopping. But what if you weren’t able to do all of that? What if you were a single mom with a young daughter, struggling just to make ends meet? I complain all the time about never having enough money, but I’m not in a bad position, especially when I think about others that are seriously having problems just paying the bills. And that’s where we all need to step in and help; the holidays are about giving, after all. That’s where Pineapple Hands comes in. We have, in a way, adopted a single mother and her daughter, and our goal is to give them the Christmas they deserve. But we can’t do it alone! Pineapple is now accepting donations of food items, gift cards, clothing and other gift items. See the list below for more specifics. Please open your heart during this season and help this family; they will be so grateful, and so will we. We are accepting donations through December 14.

size 6x/7 shirts
size 7 slim pants
size 2 shoes
she likes:  makeup, dressing up, coloring, arts/crafts, playing with dolls, etc.  She’s a typical girl.

Also, if you would prefer to donate your time, they need some minor repairs done around their house, and the air conditioner and water heater serviced. Please let us know if you are interested; you can contact us via the Pineapple Facebook page, the Pineapple Hands Facebook page, or email Lori at lbarlow@pickthepineapple.com. Have a fabulous Black Friday and a beautiful Bedlam weekend! We’ll see you on Monday!

TSA and Turkeys November 24, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — pickthepineapple @ 10:42 am

Happy Thanksgiving Eve, Pineapple fans! I hope that everyone is ready for tomorrow. I spent a LOT of time cleaning my house last night, but I’m a perfectionist when it comes to that sort of thing, so of course I’m not finished. I have big plans tonight to bake a pumpkin cheesecake, so I have one less thing to do tomorrow morning. How are everyone’s plans coming along? Anyone doing anything out of the ordinary?

Today is the busiest travel day of the year, so if you’re on the road, please be careful. I guarantee that not everyone is as good a driver as you are. The airports are under plenty of scrutiny today due to the new scanning machines. Today is “National Opt-Out Day” in which a group is encouraging travelers to “opt out” of the scanning machines because they’re too invasive. Wouldn’t a pat down by a stranger be more invasive? Tulsa is fortunate, since we have had the scanners for more than two years now, so it’s not a big deal to most locals. You stand in the booth, put your hands on your head like Bullwinkle,  and that’s it, you’re done. No wanding, no patting down, unless there is something suspicious, like the Nigerian man who smuggled bombs in his underwear. Personally, I don’t see what the fuss is about. Maybe the people watching the other side of the screen are laughing at my body? I don’t really care. I think the Opt-Out Day could go one of two ways. Either it’s going to back lines up a LOT due to them making a fuss about being screened in a different manner, or since they have to take all of those folks separately, the lines for normal scanning folks would be shorter. Either way, I’m glad that I’m not flying today. And I think it’s silly for people to make such a big deal about this; it’s only for our own safety and security, and that’s not something I care to mess around with. The photo below is from MSNBC, showing how the TSA is trying to keep searches “minimally invasive.” Um…yeah.

Things are cooking here at Pineapple HQ lately. We have several new and exciting projects lined up, and we are really pumped about it. We have lots of folks getting ready to Pick the Pineapple, and that’s fantastic. We think EVERYONE should Pick the Pineapple, don’t you? We have launched a new campaign for Don Ledford Auto Park in Tennessee, and that is going very well for him. And the brand-new Rogers Automotive spots are generating plenty of heat in North Carolina. We are working on getting Pineapple coast to coast! See one of our new Rogers Automotive spots below!

Well, Pineapple fans, I’ve lots to do today, and I’m sure you do, too. Be careful traveling, be careful if you have to go to Walmart, and enjoy Thanksgiving with your families and friends. I’ll see you on Friday. Happy Thanksgiving from the Pineapple People!

Thanksgiving Thanks November 23, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — pickthepineapple @ 10:12 am

Good morning, Pineapple fans! It’s a beautiful, although a bit chilly, day in Tulsa. It’s getting us all in the Thanksgiving spirit! I’ve seen a lot of posts on Facebook about what people are thankful for, and so I have to ask: what are you thankful for this year, Pineapple fans? Last year I had the wonderful experience of working at the mall, and I got to be there at 3:30 a.m. on Black Friday, which I fully believe should be illegal. (Black Friday, I mean.) This year I get the luxury of being at the office a little later than that on Friday morning, which is wonderful! I’m also thankful for my family; we have had a very rough year, and we will be missing a significant person at our table this year. The important thing is, we will all be together, and we have plenty of food to put on our table. There are plenty of people in our own community who will go without.

That being said, Pineapple Hands will be collecting donations of food, gift cards and other items for a small family here in our area. Please contact us on our Facebook page, the Pineapple Hands Facebook page, or email Lori at lbarlow@pickthepineapple.com for more information. We have compiled a basic list of needs below, and we would like to gather all donations by December 14th in order to give this family the holidays they deserve.

size 6x/7 shirts
size 7 slim pants
size 2 shoes
She likes:  makeup, dressing up, coloring, arts/crafts, playing with dolls, etc.  She’s a typical girl.

In addition, if you are handy, they need some minor repairs done around the house. Please let us know if you can help; a small act of kindness can make a world of difference in someone’s life.

All of the Pineapple People are excited for Thanksgiving; everyone has big plans, and some are staying home while others are traveling. We are all thankful for the blessings that Pineapple has bestowed upon us, and we are thankful for all of our clients that have helped us to get where we are. We have wonderful opportunities with our company, and we do not let a day go by without realizing that and saying a little thanks.

And of course, all of us are excited to cheer on the OSU Cowboys this Saturday against our biggest rivals, the Oklahoma Sooners. The game is in Stillwater this year, and kick-off is at 7 p.m. It’s going to be a great game, as both teams have had amazing seasons. We have faith in our Cowboys and we will be sporting orange at the game this weekend, so be sure and say hi to the Pineapples if you’re around. Orange Power! I’m sure everyone is excited about a shortened work week. But we have lots to do today, so I’m off to tackle my to-do list. Stay focused, work hard, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Kicking off the holiday season November 22, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — pickthepineapple @ 8:45 am

Good morning and happy Monday to you, Pineapple fans! I’m back from vacation and excited to be back at Pineapple HQ. I missed all of you!

The gray and gloomy weather today in Tulsa is a bit depressing, but at least it’s not freezing cold…yet. Apparently that will be here just in time for Thanksgiving on Thursday. At least it will finally feel like the holidays when it gets cooler, but I’m not looking forward to it. Although it is definitely easier to get into the Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa spirit when the temperatures drop and snow (or ice) is imminent.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, mainly because I love to eat. I’m excited to be hosting it at my house this year (and I’m sure my dog is, too, since that means lots of scrap potential). Does anyone have any wild and crazy Thanksgiving plans? Maybe you are chunking the whole idea and hitting the slopes while eating a cheeseburger, or perhaps you’re serving an Asian fusion meal instead of turkey. If you’re doing anything out of the ordinary, please feel free to share it with the Pineapple People on our Facebook page. And even if you’re planning on deer hunting, eating turkey and pumpkin pie, then retiring to the recliner to watch football, we would love to hear about it.

I’ve been out of the loop for a week, so until our staff meeting later today, I won’t have too much Pineapple info to share. I know that we have a lot of potential clients and a lot of projects barreling down on us faster than a runaway train. The days leading up to the holidays (and after!) are going to be very busy, and we are all looking forward to it. Nothing makes the Pineapple People happier than plenty of work! And I will have more than enough to go around today; Mondays are always busy, and it’s always hard to come back after missing a few days. Plus, there is office cleaning to be done, and M&Ms to buy…our candy ‘bar’ is at a dangerously low level. That will be fixed today!

However, I do have a Pineapple Hands update. We are looking to help a wonderful family have the holiday season they deserve. The family consists of  a single mom and her young daughter. They have fallen on some tough times and are doing the best they can, and we would love to help them. In turn, we would like to ask for some help from you. We are collecting food items to put together a food basket for them. In addition, gift cards of any kind are welcome. Please refer to the list below for some more specific information, and we will provide more in the days to come:

Items for her daughter:
size 6x/7 shirts
size 7 slim pants
size 2 shoes
She likes  makeup, dressing up, coloring, arts/crafts, playing with dolls, etc.  She’s a typical girl!

If you’re handy around the house and would like to donate some of your time instead, they need some minor repairs done on their house. The water heater and air conditioner need servicing, and new tires and struts are needed for their car.

Anything that you can do to help will be greatly appreciated by this deserving family. If you know of anyone who would like to help, please feel free to forward the information along. If you have any questions, please contact us on the Pineapple Facebook page, the Pineapple Hands Facebook page, or contact Lori directly at lbarlow@pickthepineapple.com. The completion date for this project is December 14, so that we have time to get everything ready in time for Christmas. Thank you in advance, Pineapple fans!
I would like to wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving week! Stay safe out there, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Fantastic Friday! November 12, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — pickthepineapple @ 12:32 pm

Good morning, Pineapple fans! It’s a gray, gloomy day at Pineapple HQ, but it’s Fabuloso Friday and Adam’s back, so I’m not so lonely anymore!  All of these factors add up to a GREAT day.

Barlow is still on the road, with one more leg of the trip to go. He is heading to Toronto to visit with one of our clients up there. The Pineapples would like to wish him a safe flight and a productive meeting. We will be glad to see him back in the office again! It’s definitely not the same when he’s gone.

The boys had a great time at the CMAs in Nashville on Wednesday night. Adam showed me some pictures, and it looked like a lot of fun. I’m still jealous, but glad they had a good time. Apparently the guys had a good time convincing the people sitting next to them during the show that Adam is British. Here’s to Adam’s accent skills! After the show, the whole gang had dinner at The Palms. Thanks again to Michelle and Don Ledford for hosting the Pineapples!

This is the first time that I’ve seen Adam since the convention in Vegas (that seems like a long time ago!), and he had some fun stories to tell me this morning. The convention was a blast, of course, and they had a productive week working with the Dynasty team.

Adam and I have a busy afternoon in front of us. Not only do we need to go over everything that has been going on for the past two weeks, we are putting the finishing touches on a presentation for our Canadian client. And of course, we are cleaning. And he IS helping, no matter what he says!

Got any big plans this weekend? If you aren’t heading to Austin to watch the Cowboys take on the Longhorns, and you’re going to be in Tulsa, you should check out the Wanenmacher’s Tulsa Arms Show. It’s the world’s largest gun show, and it’s at the QuikTrip Center at the fairgrounds. It’s a lot of fun, and a new experience if you’ve never been to a gun show. Plus, they have good junk food.

For all of my loyal readers, I have some bummer news for you. There will be no Pineapple blog next week. I know, I know, you’re not sure how you will go on. But you will, I promise! There may be a guest post (if you’re lucky!). But I’m going to be out of the office next week, and the blog goes with me. But I will see you all the week after that! Have a fantastic Friday, and a wonderful weekend. And I’ll see you a week from Monday!
